Earthwork takeoff services

Defensible earthwork quantities—built for bid day and field execution

I produce contractor-ready takeoff summaries that align with the civil plans and geotechnical requirements—with every project managed and reviewed by a Licensed Professional Engineer (TX & VA).

Results-focused takeoffs

Technical quantities you can price—and build—without surprises

Every takeoff is managed and reviewed by a Licensed Professional Engineer (TX & VA). We focus on the pay items that drive risk: stripping/respread, cut/fill balance, structural fill, subgrade elevations, and utility trench sections—delivered in clear, contractor-ready summaries.

Precision Cut & Fill Analysis

Topsoil stripping and respread quantities organized for production and pricing, plus cut/fill volumes that align with grading intent. We quantify mass earthwork and balance scenarios so you can evaluate import/export risk early.

Building Pad & Paving Subgrade Prep

Structural fill and over-excavation quantities tied to typical section requirements, with precise subgrade elevation control to reduce rework and prevent material overruns. Ideal for pads, curb lines, and pavement build-ups where inches matter.

Utility & Infrastructure Takeoffs

Pipe trench excavation, bedding, and backfill quantities built from trench geometry and typical details. We separate pay items cleanly so your team can price trench sections consistently across utilities and plan revisions.

Engineer-managed review

Quantities are checked for scope alignment, assumptions, and constructability. You receive clear notes that support bid review, value engineering, and field execution.

What we quantify

Earthwork and sitework takeoffs organized to typical pay items and field execution—so your team can review and price quickly.

Earthwork Takeoff Quantities

Cut/fill and mass grading quantity takeoffs based on your plans so you can bid confidently with reliable numbers.

Import/Export & Haul Analysis

Balancing and haul assumptions to understand movement, excess, and potential cost drivers.

Subgrade & Topsoil Stripping

Topsoil stripping and subgrade quantities organized for pricing and field execution.

Pond & Ditch Volumes

Pond, basin, and ditch volume takeoffs based on plan geometry and grading intent.

Pipe Trenching, Bedding & Backfill

Utility trench excavation, bedding, and backfill quantities aligned to typical details and pay items.

Erosion Control Quantities

Takeoffs for silt fence, inlet protection, blankets, and related items to support accurate bid pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about scope, inputs, and turnaround for earthwork takeoffs.

What do you need to start a takeoff?

A PDF plan set is typically enough. Include grading plans, pertinent structural drawings, typical sections, utility details, and any bid documents that define pay items or measurement rules.

How do you deliver quantities?

You receive a clear quantity summary with notes and assumptions. Quantities are organized to support estimating and field execution.

Can you update quantities for addenda?

Yes. Because bid accuracy is my priority, I can update your Trakware Earthworks model to reflect the most current plans. However, because these updates require a manual engineering re-analysis of the site, please note the following:

  • Minor Clarifications: If an addendum clarifies a detail without changing the physical grading or utility layout, I often include this as part of the original project scope.
  • Scope Revisions: If an addendum changes the site balance, pipe depths, or pavement sections, I provide a quick Change Order Estimate based on the additional hours required to re-digitize and re-analyze the affected areas.
  • The PE Guarantee: I do not ‘blindly’ apply updates. I review the changes against the original design to ensure the new quantities remain balanced and accurate. I treat addenda as priority items to ensure you meet your original bid deadline with numbers you can trust.

Import or export?

We identify whether your project results in an excess of material that must be exported or if the site requires import to reach final grade. Our reports provide the net volumes you need to accurately determine your additional trucking, disposal, or material procurement costs.

What is typical turnaround?

Turnaround depends on plan set size and complexity. Many projects can be turned quickly; request a quote for a schedule estimate.

Do you work nationwide?

Yes—Dirtwork Calcs supports contractors nationwide (US) via email and phone.

Every project is managed and reviewed by a Licensed Professional Engineer (TX & VA)

You receive defensible calculations, clearly stated assumptions, and contractor-ready summaries that match the project’s civil and geotechnical criteria.

Need quantities you can stand behind?

Send your civil set and geotech report—I’ll confirm scope, assumptions, and turnaround, then deliver a takeoff summary ready for your estimate.
